Culture

The Beja Culture may be one of the oldest in the world:
About 2000 years ago it was called the culture of the  "Blemmyer".
About 4000 years ago it was called the culture of the "Medja".

Beja has a long tradition of poetry and music - especially music using the "Basinkoob" - an instrument which was known all around the Mediterranean, but now is forgotten.

Beja proverbs find a remarkable echo on the other side of the Red Sea: In the Proverbs of the Holy Books, the same truths are expressed as in Beja proverbs.

The Beja culture is the only culture which has preserved the Straight Sword:
In all Arabian cultures the sword has to be curved,
In the Beja culture it is straight.
